Description
I have been essentially running two herds on my property. One for meat production Wagyu / Wagyu crosses and Highlands with a focus on mini-highlands. It has become increasing difficult to rotate and segregate the two herds and so I have decided to just focus on meat production; thus I am selling off the highlands.
The Herd
Bruno – Yellow Bull -DOB 9/24/2020, – sired 5 calves thus far, Bruno was 45″ tall at 3 years. he may be a touch taller now – Chondro negative
Clover – Yellow Cow DOB 9/24/2020, just had second calf #2404, Clover was 42″ tall at 3 years – Chondro positive, Clover is open at the moment. Last year the Bruno/Clover calf was a white bull.
Mia – Black Cow DOB 9/24/2020, Mia was 38″ tall at 3 years – Chondro positive, Mia is pregnant with second calf
LH Cayla 11H – DOB 11/24/2020, Full blood Wagyu, reg# FB62955 used here as a recipient cow for calf #2401. Cayla is open at the moment. Cayla is from a very good Wagyu bloodline from Diamond T Wagyu, her Dam sold for $6500.
CSA Payweight 214 DOB 2/15/2022, Full blood Angus, reg# AAA20406529, used here as a recipient cow for calf #2402. Payweight 214 is open at the moment. Should have no problem reselling after weaning for $3k+
Calf #2401 – DOB 11/4/2024: Birth Dam: LH Cayla, Genetic Dam: Mia, Genetic Sire: Holden. #2401 is Chondro positive yellow heifer.
Calf #2402 DOB 11/11/2024: Birth Dam: Payweight 214, Genetic Sire: Holden.#2402 is Chondro negative black heifer.
Calf#2404 – DOB 11/14/2024: Dam: Clover, Sire: Bruno. #2404 is Chondro negative yellow bull.
For all the highlands genetic testing has been done at University of California – UC Davis.
If purchasing the whole herd, I will add my remaining stores of semen from various bulls
4 Straws of Oxley – from D and D Miniature Cattle – Silver bull, 44″ tall at 9 years
3 Straws of Holden – from D and D Miniature Cattle – Dun bull, 43″ tall at 5 years – AHCA registered
6 Straws of Wallace – from Jacobson Ranch – Silver Bull, 43″ at 1.5 years
98 Straws of Bruno – described above
I would like to sell the whole together as it keeps the mothers and calves together. This gets you into production immediately with several options. Cayla and Payweight 214 have demonstrated their effectiveness at being recipient cows which you can implant with Mia’s eggs or some other dam’s eggs or have your own meat production. Herd is 1 bull, 4 cows (1 of which is pregnant) and the 3 calves.
Other obvious combinations are:
Calves #2401 & #2404 could be sold together (since they are genetically different) but they will need to be bottle fed, which they won’t like and has its own complications. You will still waiting 2 to 2 1/2 years for first baby out of the pair.
Mia and Bruno could be sold together. She should be due March/April.
I may consider other options/combinations
