Meet Panda!
aka “Little Panda”
Panda is a miniature Highland/Belted Galloway cross, standing 39 inches at the hip.
He has a beautiful wide white belt circling his middle and in the winter, grows a thick shaggy coat just like his Highland ancestors.
Panda is an intact bull around the age of 3 years old. He came to me from a bit of a rescue situation 2.5 years ago with very little known about his exact age. My vet aged him for me, and we believe he will turn 3 in November 2024.
He is beautifully conformed and passed his BSE with flying colors. I have not personally bred him to any of my animals because I exclusively AI, but BSE showed high sperm counts. Currently awaiting DNA test results and will share once they come in.
He does have what appear to be scurs, or possibly remnants of a dehorning procedure. This was the case when he first arrived to me, so I am not sure what exactly happened. DNA results will show if he truly is polled or not. The scurs aren’t visible because they’re so buried under thick hair, but please be aware they are there.
Panda is not quite a pet, and tends to be wary of humans until he decides he can trust you. However, with a lot of time and patience, he can and will form a bond with you. He is very accustomed to being with other farm animals and gets along great with every single animal he’s spent time with – donkeys, pigs, much bigger cows and steers, and even chickens and cats. He will thrive on a farm where he is allowed to breed some ladies and maybe even hang out with other species, but where he won’t necessarily be forced into showing affection. I mean, some people just aren’t touchy feely and I suppose it’s the same for bulls! The upside to this is that he is not pushy or aggressive and prefers to mind his own business. He is not the kind of bull that is always in your back pocket or shoving you around, which made him very easy to work with for me.
Panda is fully vaccinated, dewormed, and has been treated for flies with pouron and fly tags. Detailed health records will come with him, along with information on his diet, minerals, and about his original owner, plus full results of DNA testing. He is accustomed to being loaded on a trailer and being worked in a cattle chute, and does both with ease, and comes in for grain.
Panda is ready to start breeding immediately, and I am excited for him to be a perfect herd sire for a great group of cows. He is a very cool guy with a lot of potential.
