About
Located on a Cajun prairie in south Louisiana, Lucky Bandit Farms is "slow and small and away from it all".
Our farm has focused on producing HighPark crosses since 2022 through careful selection of naturally smaller-statured cattle with temperament, confirmation and color in mind. Matured height ranges from 42"-45".
We intentionally keep a small herd with one HighPark bull- Sampson Jr., who was raised here- and a few cows to maintain close relationships, the best care and overall harmony between us and the animals. The goal is producing calm, unique, stocky and proportionate calves that are not just pasture cows. That being said, while we do produce crosses, we strongly believe in keeping the integrity of the Highland breed and all it's majestic characteristics. Therefore, we do not incorporate Zebus, Longhorns or any cattle of the like into our program.
We keep the process natural. Our bull does his job, then calves are raised by calm, well-mannered cows and handled from birth. We work on training and desensitizing as much as life allows while allowing the dame to use her God given abilities. They are worked with on leading, tying and brushing. By the time they leave, they will be weaned, on feed and at least started on a halter.
Honesty is the best policy, communication is key, and money is not everything. While the mini/micro cattle rat race continues, we sit back feeling fulfilled in raising happy, healthy animals the natural way. Every calf born is a blessing. That is priceless to us. In addition, the relationships we gain with those who share interest in these amazing breeds is invaluable, and it's important to us to maintain them. We are an open book and are always available to help and advise the best we can throughout the journey. If our calves do not check all of your boxes, we are happy to guide in the right direction as there are many reputable breeders out there with something for everyone.
We have full time careers and a teenager who keeps us busy. Until priorities shift, we will remain small and slow-growing. Plans are in the works to expand the farm across the board, including producing blue roan Highland crosses. Stay tuned!
FYI, we do not:
- purchase/sell bottle babies or use a bottle to build relationships period.
- currently incorporate the chondro gene into our program.
- require a deposit simply because life happens, and things change.
